Dr. jeffrey proulx
Dr. Jeffrey Aman Proulx, PhD, is a Professor at Brown University and a core leader affiliated with the Mindfulness Center at the Brown School of Public Health. He holds joint academic roles in Psychiatry & Human Behavior, Behavioral and Social Sciences, and Public Health, where he integrates contemplative practice with rigorous research.
Dr. Proulx’s work centers on developing culturally responsive mindfulness programs that support health and well-being in underserved, Indigenous, and minoritized communities. His research explores how mindfulness practices can be adapted to reflect and honor the traditions, strengths, and lived experiences of the people he serves, approaching mindfulness not just as a clinical technique, but as a community-based resource for resilience, healing, and cultural connection.
Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all model, Dr. Proulx designs and studies interventions that incorporate community input, traditional healing practices, and culturally relevant methods alongside mindfulness training with the goal of addressing stress, chronic disease disparities, historical trauma, and social determinants of health.
At Brown University’s Mindfulness Center, he also contributes to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and mentors students who are engaged in contemplative practice research. His teaching and scholarship reflect a commitment to bringing contemplative science into real-world contexts, especially for communities that have historically lacked access to mental wellness resources.
